Pau makes impressive debut, Grizzly beard still intact
Feb 6th, 2008 by Brian Chin
In his first game with the Los Angeles Lakers, Pau Gasol showed exactly why he was speculated in trade rumors for over a year.
Gasol notched 24 points, 12 boards and 4 assists in a Laker tromping of the New Jersey Nets 105-90 yesterday.
Not being able to watch any of the game, I can’t comment on how Pau actually looked in the triangle offense, how he looked running up and down the floor and how grizzly is beard actually was. However, he did have his first 20+-point game since January 19, which shows he might have been more involved in the offense – just a little bit.
Gasol’s impact on the Lakers might not actually surface until the playoffs start – or maybe I’m wrong and Friday will be Pau’s real coming. On Friday, the Lakers will be entering Dwight’s domain in Orlando. It’ll be the only time the two teams face-off this season and with Pau opening up the floor for Kobe and Co., it might solidify the Lakers as a very dangerous Western Conference contender.
Kobe was bad enough. Now you’ve got to face Kobe with an open lane down the middle.
